One of the great aspects of participating in this annual event is that you get the benefit of free advertising. The Simonton Lake Area Homeowners Association pays for the ads placed in the Elkhart Truth.  These ads help broadcast the garage sale to all tourists and visitors in the area. The items that will cost money will be all the items you place up for sale during this grand event.  In addition to those pre-paid ads, the Association will also place direction signs up so all garage sale enthusiasts can find their way to your yard.


When is the Garage Sale held?
This event is held every year and it takes place during the first week of May. That is an ideal time as the weather is just right. Plus, the event is held on the first Friday and Saturday of the month.  You may have missed the sale this year, but you can now have 8 months to prepare for the next great Garage Sale in 2024. It is a fun time for all as you get to meet new people, clear out the clutter in your home, and make some money while having a great time.


In the event of rain or other storms contact the SLAHA for updates and if the sale will be postponed or not. If you missed the Spring Garage Sale do not worry, there will be the annual Fall event held at the end of September.  Check with the Simonton Lake Area Homeowners Association for specific times and dates. This is an event you should not miss.


The show must go on
One of the best features of the annual SLAHA Garage Sale is that the Homeowners association always finds a way to keep it from being canceled. This dedication to the annual event sparks a lot of enthusiasm in the sellers and builds confidence in the event.


Even COVID did not cancel this neighborhood fun time. The event was held four months later and it was a resounding success. The participation is growing. One year the Sale had 56 homes participating and that was a record at that time.  With that many families involved, you know you will find some great treasures at affordable prices. That is what makes this event so special. It is like a treasure hunt except this treasure is not a buried secret.

Who can participate
For those people who want to join the host of sellers, just contact the SLAHA for all the details. But even if you do not become a seller, you can support your neighbors by visiting their garage sales and seeing what you can find.

This event is an exciting time as you never know what valuable object you will find. It is something that the whole family joins in and has quality time together.  This annual event is a win-win for everyone and is one of the most positive features of living or visiting Simonton Lake. A non-profit’s idea of fun


Every year for the past 8 years the Simonton Lake Sportsmen's Club holds their annual Fall Ball. This is their biggest fundraiser of the year and it is designed for everyone in attendance to have fun.


The Simonton Lake Sportsmen's Club is a separate entity from the Simonton Lake Homeowner's Association and the Club does a lot of good work throughout the year promoting Simonton Lake and the surrounding area.


What is the Fall Ball?


This is the main event of the year for the Simonton Lake Sportsmen’s Club and it is a dance that is filled with great music for those who like a little musical entertainment as they eat.


It is a magical evening with dancing, food, drinks, as well as a lot of fun. Costumes are not mandatory but they are highly recommended. All that is required to attend this year is the cost of the tickets which seem to be $40 per person which covers drinks, dinner, and dancing.


Also, bring some non-perishable food items to be donated to the Osolo Food Pantry. In past years the ticket cost reached $35 & $50 and 4 non-perishable food items. This Fall Ball is for a good cause so make sure to bring some tasty mealtime favorites.


When is the Fall Ball?


The Fall Ball is the annual fundraising event that helps the Sportsman Club carry out its duties. This year it is being held on Nov. 11th and goes from 6 PM to midnight. You can purchase your tickets online and those tickets will be available at Will Call.


The theme is the Kentucky Derby so create your costume accordingly.


Prizes and fun galore


There will be lots of fun at this year’s Ball. The Sportsman Club is going to hold a silent auction as well as give prizes for the best Ladies' Hat and the most Dapper Man.


Not to mention there will be live music for dancing and raffles to round out this evening's fun and excitement. It is an evening that you may not forget as it is all for a good cause.


8 years of a good time


That is something the residents of Lake Simonton look forward to. The annual Fall Ball is a great way to catch up with old friends or make new ones. It is an enjoyable night that is guaranteed to bring a lot of happiness and joy into the hearts of those who attend.


This Ball has been a highlight of the social season in Lake Simonton for almost 10 years. Besides creating a lot of fun for everyone, the proceeds go to the local food bank to help those who need a boost.

Great fishing needs a good supply of fish
The word is out. Simonton Lake in Elkhart, Indiana is a great place to go fishing. With its variety of public and private lake access, even the novice fisherman can find a way to fish on this lake.

While there does not seem to be a natural way for fish to enter the lake, that means that either the state, city, or private owners must see to it that those waters are fully stocked with fish.

If the lake is privately owned
This is one of the catches that private pond and lake owners must solve. While Indiana will supply all public lakes with a variety of fish species, the state will not stock any private ponds or lakes.

Those private lakes, etc., must buy their own fish and see to their health so that the fishing remains good. Since this lake is governed by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, it stands to reason that the Indiana DNR provides fish for this lake.

The type of fish in Simonton Lake
Not everyone likes every species of fish which is why when the Indiana DNR stocks lakes like Simonton Lake, they provide fishermen with a wide variety of fish species to go for.

The DNR-run hatcheries breed up to 16 varieties of fish. Many but not all of those 16 varieties may end up in Simonton Lake. Some of those varieties include- Largemouth Bass, White Crappie, Bluegill, Walleye, and Northern Pike.

It is a fisherman’s dream to be able to spend a week or more fishing at this lake. The amount of variety makes it an interesting and exciting activity.

Fishing and regulations
Like all publicly owned lakes and rivers, there are some regulations that have to be adhered to. While Simonton Lake provides a year-round fishing experience, those regulations are also in effect all year long.

The Indiana DNR and the city of Simonton Lake may have fishing requirements that need to be followed. Before your trip to fish this well-stocked lake, you need to contact the local authorities to learn about those requirements and if you need a fishing license or not.

Plus, you do not have to bring along a lot of fishing gear or equipment. The local bait and fishing supply shops are well stocked as well with lures, bait, and other fishing equipment.

If you forget your favorite lure, do not worry. You are covered by these local fishing outlets.
Fishing Simonton Lake
The well-stocked lake is ready for both seasoned and novice fishermen and women. If you enjoy fishing, this may be an experience you will never forget. The state takes care of stocking the lake so there should be a good supply of fish when you arrive.

Not every lake can be huge but one thing that Simonton Lake has is great public access to its waters. Access can make or break a lake when the public wants to use it alongside the residents.


Its public access has been given favorable ratings in spite of the size and condition of the Lake.


One public access to this lake


While you may find more places to launch your watercraft, there is only one public access which is located at 51101-51161 Maple Grove Ave in Elkhart. Its specific location is right in the channel connecting both sides of the lake making it the ideal spot for any tourist to launch their boats.


Once launched it is easy to veer to the port side or the starboard side and get to the area of the lake you want to do your fishing or water skiing and so on. The other access points provide a beach area, grills for a good barbecue, restrooms, and several places to launch your boats, etc.


The hardest part of the Simonton Lake Public Access is choosing the best spot to start your water activities.

That is what you are going to get when you travel to the Simonton Lake Public Access. The lake is very versatile as it hosts a myriad of water sports and other activities. If you like to fish, there are several good spots giving access to the deeper waters of the lake.


If not a fishing enthusiast, then you and your family can enjoy a wakeboarding park that contains several jumps and rails for those who love pushing the fun envelope while on the water.

The Simonton Lake Public Access is big on safety and encourages all of its visitors to wear life jackets when on the water and follow all the posted safety guidelines to ensure you and your family have a good time.


It is highly suggested that you contact the local authorities when you arrive to find out any news updates or which water activities are not allowed at the time. By doing these things, you and your family should have a great time and create a lot of good memories.

Some people did not like the size of the lake but they did enjoy the ease of access to it. Another negative reviewer said that the lake was on the dirty side but that was a lone opinion.
